Founder

Karl Obszanski is an accomplished engineer, entrepreneur, and the founder of Aston Vision Sciences. With a background in biomedical and aerospace engineering, and a PhD focused on anterior eye diagnostics, Karl combines deep technical expertise with a clear vision for patient‑centred innovation.

 

Karl has led Aston Vision Sciences from concept to international commercialisation, launching two ophthalmic devices across global markets and securing multiple granted patents. Karl oversees product strategy, engineering leadership, regulatory compliance, and investment engagement, ensuring each device is grounded in robust science, user‑focused design, and clinical value.

 

Driven by a passion for blending technology with real‑world healthcare needs, Karl leads a multidisciplinary team developing portable, clinician‑driven diagnostic tools used in settings ranging from home visits to hospitals. His work positions AVS as a trusted provider of innovative, high‑quality solutions in modern eye care.

Paul Chapman Hatchett
Non- Executive Director

Paul Chapman Hatchett brings a strong blend of clinical insight, commercial experience, and strategic leadership to Aston Vision Sciences. His career spans decades across eye‑care delivery, multi‑site business management, and advisory roles in healthcare and MedTech.

 

Paul began in high‑street optometry, where he built, operated, and later sold a group of 11 successful franchise clinics. This gave him deep experience in service delivery, operational efficiency, and leading high‑performing clinical teams.

 

He later joined The Outside Clinic, providing domiciliary eye‑care to patients in their homes. This hands‑on work gave him a practical understanding of the challenges clinicians face—especially around portability, reliability, and ease of use in medical devices.

 

As a Non‑Executive Director at Aston Vision Sciences, Paul supports strategic decision‑making, governance, and product alignment with real clinician needs. He also contributes expertise through roles with the Optical Consumer Complaints Service, Eye to the Future, and Vision Care for Homeless People.
