Lumio
Lumio – Increase diagnostic efficiency. Reduce rechecks. Save money from day one.
Made in the UK, the Lumio is a high‑performance, handheld anterior eye examiner designed to save clinics time and money while improving diagnostic accuracy. With instant-on operation, white and tuned blue light for fluorescein assessments, and AVS’ high-performance clip‑in yellow filter, Lumio supports high‑quality examinations without the cost or constraints of a slit lamp.
Lumio's rugged, ultra‑portable design allows clinicians to perform reliable examinations anywhere — enhancing patient flow, reducing repeat visits, and improving the economics of frontline care.
How Lumio Saves Your Clinic Money
1. Reduces Recheck Appointments
Clear fluorescein visualisation and 7× magnification help clinicians identify dry eye, abrasions, ulcers, and foreign bodies correctly first time. This reduces unnecessary rechecks and helps protect valuable appointment time.
2. Reduce Dependence on Additional Equipment
Lumio handles many routine anterior eye assessments without the need for larger or room‑based equipment.
Whether a slit lamp isn’t available, clinicians are moving between examination rooms or working in emergency/ domiciliary care, Lumio offers a practical, cost‑effective alternative that’s ready to use immediately.
This reduces:
- Capital equipment purchases
- Maintenance and calibration costs
- Training time for more complex tools
Lumio simplifies everyday corneal assessments while keeping overheads low and patients comfortable.
3. Efficient, Faster Patient Flow
Lumio is portable and instantly ready to use, helping speedup and streamline everyday examinations, leading to:
- Quicker triage
- Shorter appointment times
- Faster patient flow
Savings of 2 minutes per exam can create the equivalent of 2 to 4 extra daily consult slots.
Avoiding two recheck appointments per week can save around 30 minutes of clinician time, worth up to £4,000 per year.

Andrew D Price, Eye Drops Database
Having 'test-driven' this very handy instrument, I would suggest it would have tangible benefits in many situations, my thoughts are as follows:
1. Indispensable in the veterinary toolkit - in practice and on the road.
2. I'm sure many GPs/nursing staff would find it useful, and probably better for ocular surface exam than their current methods.
3. It's easy availability in non-eye medical environments would help an ocular surface,
4. Easy to use for new ophthalmic nursing staff from their first day.
5. Easy to carry and use on all patients for all ophthalmic staff in a domiciliary environment
6. Especially useful to have available for exams with children or anxious patients.
7. As an alternative for patients unable to access or be positioned on a slit-lamp.
I would go as far as saying every eye care or medical practice should have at least one!
